Pankaj TMT Tempcore* Bars -certified by Centre de Recherches
Metallurgies (CRM) Belgium are made with the world's most advanced
technology using the following process
The Process:
The raw material is heated in a computer controlled reheating
furnace and rolled through a sequence of rolling mill stands which
produces TMT bars of uniform diameter and length. Next, the bars are
subject to heat treatment in three stages:
- The First Stage of 'Quenching' begins when the hot rolled bar leaves
the final mill stand and is rapidly quenched by a special water
spray system. This converts the surface layer of the bar to the
hardened structure called 'Martensite' while the core remains
austenitic.
- The Second Stage of 'Self Tempering' begins when the bar leaves the
quenching box with a temperature gradient through its cross section,
with the temperature of the core being higher than that of the
surface. In this stage heat flows from the core to the surface
resulting in tempering of the surface giving a structure called
'Tempered Martensite'. The core is still austenitic.
- The Third Stage of 'Atmosphere Cooling' is on the cooling bed, where
the austenitic core is transformed to a ductile ferrite pearlite
core.
Thus, the grain structure consists of a combination of tough outer
layer of tempered martensite and a ductile core ferrite -pearlite.
This is what gives Pankaj -TMT its unique package of properties –an
excellent combination of strength and ductility.
We offer grades Fe
415, 500, 550 ranging from 8mm to 50mm conforming to ISI and
Tempcore standards.
Pankaj CTD bars are
manufactured in a modern facility where every bar is produced to
deliver the best of performance for you. The process of melting.
Casting, rolling & twisting is handled with the greatest care so
that every bar is of the highest quality standard.
Pankaj CTD Bars are
offered in two variants – CTD 40 (Fe415) and CTD 50 (Fe500). These
bars conform to IS Standards IS 1786 / 1985. The elaborate and
stringent testing methods followed at our labs ensure that every
“Pankaj” embossed bar is of consistent and guaranteed quality.
Superior Testing

Products of Pankaj Steel are subject to the most rigorous of testing at
every stage. All CTD and TMT bars are tested to ensure that they meet or
exceed relevant IS standards and are endorsed by the Bureau of Indian Standards.
Our sophisticated quality and R&D labs are equipped with the latest testing
machines and instruments to test for various parameters such as Proof Strength,
Ultimate Tensile Strength, Elongation Bend Test and ReBend Test.
Metallurgical testing includes testing for Carbon, Sulphur and phosphorous
levels. We also conduct checks and testing of input raw materials and scrap
to ensure quality of the end product.
Indeed, the embossed Pankaj symbol on our bars is an assurance that you
are buying a product that conforms to highest of quality standards.
Pankaj DTD bars – Quality that’s next to indestructible
Advantages

- Better fatigue strength
- 100% weldability
- Built in high creep resistance through cold working
- Lesser crack width due to high bend
- 20% higher factor of safety due to hyper resistance to plastic flow
Raw Material Production

Pankaj Steel has a high capacity induction furnace, essentially for
captive consumption, which produces raw material for production of CTD and
TMT steel bars and is supplied and installed by one of the leading manufacturers
of Induction Furnaces in the country.
The facility produces raw material of high quality through a carefully monitored
process. At the input stage, all incoming scrap iron passes through a series
of stringent checks to ensure quality of the input. Multiple tests and analyses
are carried out to monitor the metallurgical properties of the raw material
which is critical in the production of quality steel bars.
The Company has spare capacity to offer production and supply of raw material
for mills on commercial basis and regularly ships supplies to various mills
in the Southern and Western regions of the country.
Value Added Products from Pankaj Steel

Pankaj Steel offers a range of value added products that include a wide
variety of steel structurals such as angles, flats, squares, rounds etc.
We can also produce and supply structurals that are made to custom sizes
and specifications.
Sponge Iron Production

A sophisticated sponge iron plant with two kilns which produces sponge
iron that augments the raw material requirements of the induction furnace.
The sponge iron is produced by the Direct Reduction method in a highly sophisticated
and automated plant and every stage of production is closely monitored to
maintain best metallisation and yield of product.
Superior quality ore of high Fe content and imported coal of high calorific
value ensure a top class product.
Pankaj Steel also offers supply of sponge iron to customers and our sales
network covers the entire region of South India and Gujarat.
The future of steel is here. Our passion for quality steel drives us; our
commitment to research & development shapes us; our innovation sets us apart;
and our desire to deliver the best quality steel defines who we are… always
looking at ways to shape the future, your future…
TMT Bars
Our Thermo Mechanically Treated TMT steel bars are widely used in all types
of construction purposes. They exhibit very high bend ability and also re-bend
ability features due to lower carbon content and higher elongation with
excellent yield and ductility characteristics, our TMT steel bars are ideally
suited for application in earthquake zones.
Process
These bars are manufactured at our state-of-the-art plant, under the close
supervision of frontline engineers and metallurgists. Our extensive experience
in rolling has empowered us with the capability to develop TMT steel bars
of the highest quality. The bars through a highly controlled in-line process
of hardening and tempering during hot rolling. Once passing through the
finishing stand, ribbed bars are passed through specially designed water-based
cooling systems. The co#21ADF6oling system transforms the outer surface
to marten site, while the core remains comparatively hot and austenitic.
The composite structure so formed high yield strength and excellent ductility
characteristics.

Some of the salient features
of TMT steel bars are:
- Excellent Bond Strength
The rib pattern of - TMT bars has been specially designed to ensure excellent
bounding between the bar and the surrounding concrete. The ribs are uniform
and concrete due to cutting by automated machines. Thus the bond strength
is 100-200% higher than the M.S plain bars and convectional CTD bars.
- Excellent Weld Ability
TMT bar has far more superior weld ability than convectional CTD bars.
Due to its low carbon content, it can be butt- welded or lap - welded
using ordinary retile coated electrodes of matching strength.
- Super Bend Ability
The tough outer surface and the ductile core of I TMT bars make it extra
high ductile and bendable as compared to reinforcement steel bars.
- Highly Resistant against Corrosion
Our premium product TMT is manufactured by thermo mechanical treatment
processes with no tensional residual stresses on the bars. This results
in superior corrosion resistance characteristics than conventional bars.
- Dimensional Tolerances
Our bar confirms to the IS: 1786 standard laid for dimensional tolerances,
and has section weight generally lower than found on other bars.
- More Economical
Our TMT bars are new generation high strength bars, with usable yield
strengths in excess than required to meet Fe-415 grade and ARE: 1786 standard.
It helps our bars take higher stress levels, resulting in less consumption
of our steel bars than other conventional bars. Thus it helps in saving
the valuable money of our clients and avoiding unnecessary loads on the
structure.
